Life changes since the wave begin. It comes without signs, it spreads, without barrier. We don’t want this to happen, and we think this is the end of the world. But no worries, the new normal has just begin. I proudly say, cheers for the fun 4 months of quarantine.
I’m Alfina Nur
Isyrofi from Poltekkes Kemenkes Malang.
Pandemic of COVID-19 is still in the process
of healing. The healing starts from small, up to the bigger scale. From
individual to institutional level. The condition was made in order to create
new normal as people tries to adjust within it. In any attempts of adjusting, there will always be trial and error. Exactly,
Social and physical distancing are the most challenging moments to do for the
early 2 months. Feeling stuck, yesterday feels like “just now”, and days feels like years. Later on, we start
to realize that this virus lies between, and around us. Of course, we need to survive
. It’s time, to maximize our potentials in order to support the new normal
after this wave. The terms are called COVID-19 developed skills.
COVID-19 developed
skills are present because we are going beyond something that we cannot imagine
before. I take this theme because it happens to me. Yes, since COVID-19 has
become the new reborn of the world, we can always change to be the new version
of our self, in a good way. Where there are small actions, I believe it can
lead to significant impact at least to ourselves. Because of COVID-19, I
experience my developed skills, which are planting and cooking.
Related to
this phenomenon, Ive been thinking about the worst scenario of what will happen
during the transition of pandemic and new normal. Once, I did buy tomato with
the price three thousand rupiah. But the quantity isn’t exactly as much as before the pandemic. I think that it is an
economical change that hampers the small unit of household. As a nutrition
student, it leads me to figure out about the food accessibility and security in
my own household. My thoughts creates an outcome, that I must take a role on
providing the food needs, especially for my family.
First thing to
set up is by thinking of my goal. What am I doing this for? If I want
betterment in aspect of food, than I should choose what is feasible and doable.
I choose P, L, A, N, T, I, N, G. A
simple verb+ing that has endless cycle. Planting introduces me to have the
sense of belonging. The process might be simple. Preparing a space for them to
grow, putting the tomato seed into the ground, frequently watering it, let them
grow, and voila! There comes the tomato, a fresh veggie, healthy, and pickable.
By seeing them grow, it makes me relax and appreciate the nature and the knowing
where my food come from. Also, to keep my memories open, I write my activity
trough planting journal by labelling them. Expressing daily activity by
journaling gives high impact to challenge my consistency in planting.
Second, I develop my skills at cooking. To me, cooking means processing, preparing, until serving. In every part, I learn time efficiency, patience, and challenging my taste bud. I take cooking chicken breast as my example. I bought 1 kilogram of it, and cut them into half, and save the other half. I prove that I still can cook ½ kilograms of chicken breast for 5 peoples, in 1 day. Of course, with other sustainable vegetables. This shows that it makes me learn about how to maximize and functionalize what I have now. True, that cooking is our basic life skill, at least to survive.
What is my aim? At least, I can complete my daily needs. This is practical and efficient. I believe that even at very worst, people think that I’m being selfish by not buying foods and killing the economical activities, I proudly say no. There are limits that people can effort, including me. I realize that being me is still far from perfect, I still need the accessibility of other components of food, which is why, buying activity can still be done and I still can focus on doing planting, and cooking. It’s worth to be shared in social media, because it can be platform to discuss about the same interest. And who knows, one another will likely to share tips together!
COVID-19 gives
us lesson learn in the middle of pandemic, we found strengths that we cannot
imagine before. The important thing of having strength is its sustainability,
the power to make it consistent to improve, and habituate it. Blessing in
disguised. Make it as a new normal, new habit, new skills. I hope my speech can
give inspiration. Thank you very much.
